I can’t even express how much I despise this administration and their thoroughly corrupt, disgusting, evil and physically ugly leader!! I can’t imagine the people who voted for him! For 10 years in the late 90’s, into the 2000’s, I lived in the South and worked in NASCAR where when he came back on the scene this time, it turned out many support him.. Some truly hated me as I spoke out loudly against him.. Very sad and brought me so much pain as I worked so closely with them for years..

Lori, I know just what you are talking about! I moved from Md, to a rural area of NC and was shocked to find out how very different it is here. Almost everyone I know is gung-ho on Trump. My in-laws family is so bad, I can no longer stomach attending family events. Things are a little better in larger cities. I too am sad and hurt.

This is not even near a major airport-they are going to move ppl through Hagerstown Regional?…sorry this isn’t a holding facility this is a death camp-they all are period. I have been blowing up Moore, VanHollen, Alsobrooks etc I’ll blow up fucking DHS gestapo too

Hagerstown has a regional airport which is underused (or was shuttered a couple of years ago). But the facilities are there.

The airport in Hagerstown is active. It can land Air Force 1, as it is one used to get to Camp David. The runway was widened. It was at Smithsburg HS, in Washington County where the press pool was stationed immediately after 9/11.

Horrible. And doesn't it sound a bit like ripping down the east wing THEN deciding how to use it. Sickening. The hearing was a sycophant show.

More pressure needs to be put on the Washington County Commissioners from the state, and from MD's US Senators and Representatives. I know that actions are in progress, but time is really of the essence. DHS is pulling out the stops to try to steamroll this center into being, and the Commissioners are absolutely complicit in allowing DHS to do whatever they want. Only concerted pressure from state and Federal governments will be able to stop this project from going forward.

Why is the action letter directed to DHS ICE to oppose this warehouse conversion? Talk about falling on deaf ears! It should be going to state and county officials.

Michael Wriston's avatar

Hi there! The letter is directed to ICE because they solicited community input.

Please post the specific ICE email address that we should send our message to. I have the Project ICE Box email address in the BCC field. I wasn't able to use the button.

Amy Forsberg's avatar

Thank you! Done, and sent to all my reps as well.

Janet Jeffers's avatar

I like pre-filled emails too! I just sent mine, but I goofed and removed the BCC from it before I sent, so you won’t get notification of my message. Sorry about that!

I am disgusted with our government now. These aren't detention facilities, they're concentration camps!

I can't get the button to work?

Done! Thanks for providing the sample email and for all that you’re doing to keep us informed. ICE out of Maryland!

Thanks for showing how it's done!

Looks like some email clients don't take kindly to pre-filled emails!

Simply send an email to icesustainability@ice.dhs.gov and put this message in the body:

I am writing to oppose ICE's proposed 1,500-bed detention facility at 16220 Wright Road in Williamsport, MD.

DHS has provided no site plan, no engineering specifications, no infrastructure assessments, and no operational projections for this project. Describing the conversion of a package warehouse into a detention center housing 1,500 people as an "in-kind" change is not a credible characterization — it is a fundamental transformation of land use, infrastructure demand, and community impact.

A town of 2,000 residents cannot meaningfully assess — let alone absorb — a facility that will process thousands of people per week without basic information about its water use, sewage needs, traffic impact, staffing, and operational requirements. That information has not been provided.

I urge ICE to release concrete project documentation and ensure genuine public engagement before moving forward. Maryland communities deserve transparency, not the appearance of a process without the substance of one.
