So what can the D controlled state do? Anything? Or is it up to voters in Washington county’s next election to remove these goons?

The state has some options to make the operation of the warehouse as a detention center much more restrictive for ICE — and is currently exploring that via HB 630.

But long term, it will be up to Washington County to decide for themselves.

Appreciate the response. I am sick of living in this state of fear for the safety of my neighbors from our government. Watched you on TRMS last night. And thank you for your diligent efforts to notify the public! You sir, are part of America for which I hold great pride.

Doesn’t sound like they represent their constituents, does it?

Follow the money.

I would be willing to pledge support, but please allow the donors to choose the amount: I'm retired and I can't afford this much.

Thank you.

Ah yes, it’s an unfortunate side effect of Substack. We actually ask that instead of pledging support to us, you donate what you can to a local organization in your area supporting immigrants’ rights, community aid, or a politician in a contested race who could use the support.

That was my thought exactly!

Thanks to the unseen, unheard people in the room who objected to a prison in their county.

Time to throw these bums out of office!

Going to boycott doing business in Washington County - was even thinking of relocating there but now - Hell NO! How the Board of Commissioners treat their constituents is anti-democratic!!!

Creeksailor's avatar

Make sure you write to Washington Co to tell them of your decision and why!

Let’s make sure Maryland passes the bill by Delegate Schindler

Who are these 1500 people slated for the camp? Bill Boards could be erected to portray the inhumanity about to fall upon 1500 people..... Apparently the goal is to put half the population of US in prison camps.....or maybe until it reaches 6 million so as to not be less than the most infamous camps. I wish I had the talent to design such a poster/billboard.

The Board of Commissioners needs to receive an avalanche of letters against the project, at the very least, and yes, those who made the purchase need to be outed.

clearing the room is an indication that they know full well the project was not going to be supported. Shame on them for attempting to ram this down the throat of their constituents.

WHO FINANCED THIS PURCHASE? WHO IS HOLDING THE NOTE? WHO SETTLED THE PURCHASE?

I've been saying since election day, watch for the camps being built. It's not just a kickback scheme for construction and private prison companies, they are actively disappearing people. The Nazi's kept meticulous records because they thought they would document their success for prosperity. MAGA hides, obfuscates and redacts because they know they are on the wrong side, but they don't care as long as they are on the currently winning side. To them, Short term profit overrides the tides of History. They will be dead in 30 years, they don't care if their children can't maintain their autocracy, that's a problem for them.

Thanks for sharing this. The Washington County Board of Commissioners should be ashamed. They did not afford their constituents a right to speak and then disregarded their constituents to assert their own wills. Never knew Washington County was under authoritarian control and now I do. I live in Western Frederick County and will be boycotting Washington County as I place I go and spend my money. Was even considering relocating my farm there, but I have no desire to live and pay taxes to such people.

Shame! Shame on those entities transacting with ICE. Kudos for subtack — light over darkness 💥

Interesting note about the council. Derek Harvey, formerly a member of Trump's National Security Council during his first term and also a member of Devin Nunes' push to squash the Russia investigations, is a sitting member of the BOCC.
