What can I do to oppose the Hagerstown MD facility?

Michael Wriston's avatar

Susan outlined probably one of the most impactful ways you can help combat the Hagerstown facility.

One other step you can take is to write testimony in support of HB 630. This proposed emergency legislation in the Maryland House of Delegates would prevent anyone from creating an immigration detention center out of a building that was not originally designed for that purpose.

A very kind PSB reader wrote a guide on how to do that here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-pVey5gLtu--t22wRcbeSy52DDTtPznOBk1XXLqvp4I/edit?usp=drivesdk

The proposed leased warehouse in SE MI near DTW airport is actually located in New Boston, MI, just outside of Romulus. So when looking up ordinance information or city council meetings to attend/write to, use New Boston info.

The proposed site at 17991 Wahrman Rd is zoned Industrial. It's currently leased by The Home Depot and listed on LoopNet as Available for Sublease.

LoopNet is a good place to find info on commercial properties for sale or lease.

It's sickening to see internment camps being actively set up in my lifetime. How this isn't being shutdown immediately is disturbing when we know historically this is always wrong.

I have done a series of 6 issue briefs on immigration enforcement. Those should be invaluable in helping people get up to speed on the issues. Under the Facts tab, there also is comprehensive contact info for Senators. https://open.substack.com/pub/sharonlawrence/p/issue-insights-immigration-and-customs?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=a5esd

So the idea is to move thousands/hundreds of thousands undocumented people (keep in mind that this government is preventing immigrants from going through the process to legally be here) to concentration camps. Thus removing their contribution to the GDP of America and to the US tax base. Then having the American tax payers pay Corporations to enslave these people and perhaps work for pennies on the dollar to produce goods for corporations. What does that sound like to me? Slavery, evil, greed, hatred. Reminds me of how Bush’s Iraq war spent the surplus Clinton had built up and then some, transferring taxpayers dollars to the military industrial complex (black water for example) wasting billions, killing men women and children, destroying museums and infrastructure to “find” WMDs knowing full well there were none. In the meantime letting the Taliban run amok until Obama found justice for 9/11 victims.

One of the simplest and most powerful tools of resistance that we have as individuals is completely under utilized. I’m referring to the boycott. It’s easier to stop doing something, then to start doing something. I may not have the energy to march an organize, but I can stop buying products and services with no effort at all. How do you use your data to help us make individual acts of resistance that turn into movements?

Concern over whether or not this could be coming to Montana…big open state with lots of open spaces and congressional offices and governor are all in for Trump administration

Parump, NV...ICE detention facility...Pathetic.

Michael Wriston's avatar

On top of that, it is a privately owned and contracted detention center, with services provided by CoreCivic — one of the largest private detention contractors in the US.

How do I find out a more precise location of the dot in Northeastern New York State?

Sarah Simon's avatar

I live in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City just rejected their proposal. I noticed, though, there are 2 blackish areas by the green one. What do the blackish areas mean?

Michael Wriston's avatar

Those are existing ICE detention centers. ICE partners with county and private detention centers for “bed space” for people awaiting moves to the larger processing sites.
